Match Report: Lurgan II v Cliftonville Academy III

CACC 3s travelled to Lurgan for their 3rd game of the season ( 2nd League game) and despite having the same player cry off for the 2nd week at the last minute we were still able to field 11 players with John ‘Daddy’ Wilson and Neil Cahill, coming to the clubs aid and playing when advised not to.

Both clubs sensibley agreed to a 2020 format and the CACC 3’s lost the toss and were asked to bowl and as the big Windsor wedding was taking place the ever reliable Stevie Fettis and Matty Jess, making his first appearance of the season, opened the bowling and even though no wickets fell the 2 opening bowlers and First Change Mikey Browne kept the batsmen reasonably contained.

Despite being , obviously, under strength the boys didn’t let their heads drop and competed valiantly from the first ball to the last ball and restricted Lurgan to a total of 139 from 20 overs with the ever miserly swing king and skipper D Martin taking 2 for 12 from 4 and ‘Golden arm’ Adam Wilson, who as ever managed to get wickets with what can only be described as half trackers, took 5 wickets.

The CACC response was steady with Phil ‘ the Quiet Man’ Kane and Rob Best opening the batting but with no real power hitters and Lurgan changing their bowlers effectively CACC were never in the hunt and fell short of the lurgan total.

Despite an unsure start to the season the boys have already developed a great team spirit and with a double header this weekend with, Instonians away on Saturday and Home at UUJ on sunday, it is hoped that the 3s can get their league campaign up and running.
