4th XI report
The CACC 4th XI finally got their season off and running with a pulsating 4 wkts in over Cooke 3’s.
Cooke batted first and immediately looked imposing scoring a handful of boundaries despite the long grass. Adam Gooderham broke the opening partnership with a wide delivery caught by Ian Latham grazing down at long off.
Young Colin Salt then changed the course of the game with a wonderful spell of leg/off/top spin bowling. A clever switch of ends (the skipper saw something in the pitch) helped him take his first wicket with an excellent catch in the deep by the better fielder of the two Scott’s (Oliver). The very next ball Salty removed the batsmen’s middle stump. The hat trick ball produced much hysteria as the batsman top edged the ball straight to Harvey Latham keeping wicket. Colin Salts first hat trick since records began. Salty took another wicket to finish with 4 for 9. Olly Scott and Ryan Ferguson making his debut for the senior teams also took a wicket each. This team had a number of 13 year olds including Ryan and Adam Orr who were a full 57 years younger than our other debutant Frank Pye who put the younger lads to shame diving around at backward square leg. Cooke eventually posted 94 for 9.
In reply, CACC lost two early wickets (H Latham and L Dennison) but Robert and Olly Scott helped steady the ship. When both Scott’s lost their wickets it fell to Adam Gooderham (10) and Ian Latham (46) to guide the ship home. Latham recklessly gave his wicket away only to allow Olly Smith and the MOM (Salty) to club the winning runs through mid wicket.
Congratulations to everyone especially our debutants and Salty for his hat trick.
Ian Latham
